Food hygiene has become a cause of great public concern and interest in recent years with major food issues such as E-COLI 0157, BSE and Salmonella making headline news. Our food safety inspectors are addressing these food issues locally and are working to improve food safety and hygiene standards across the district.

Register a Food Business

If you are starting a new food business or taking over an existing one you must register your premises with us at least 28 days before you start operating. This is a legal requirement.

Products of Animal Origin

if you produce products of animal origin - meat, fish, dairy or eggs and supply these to other food business establishments you must apply for approval before you register your business.

If you run a food business, you need to be aware of the rules about providing information regarding allergens in your products to customers in both wrapped and unwrapped foods.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is responsible for protecting public health in relation to food and provides information and advice to businesses and consumers.
