Cowdray Square Playing Fields in Deal

Residents and visitors to Cowdray Square Playing Fields in Deal will soon be able to work out for free thanks to a £10,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK.

New gym equipment supplied and installed by Kent based ‘The Great Outdoor Gym Company’ (TGO) will be installed mid-September and consists of a fitness bench, hand bike, dips/leg raise and spinning bike.

This is the second part of its redevelopment following an exciting play area upgrade, and an investment of over £100k in new facilities at the location last year.

The resistance-based equipment is accompanied by easy-to-understand instructional signage with start and finish diagrams, fitness tips and advice while scannable QR codes give access to ‘how to use’ demonstration videos.

TGO’s weatherproof products are 100% made in Britain and certified to EN16630 safety standard. All products are also designed to be as inclusive as possible. The hand bike, for example, can be used by both able-bodied users and wheelchair users for toning up arms whilst improving muscle, stamina and endurance.

DDC’s Cabinet member for Community, Cllr Charlotte Zosseder, said: “We are delighted to receive funding from The National Lottery Community Fund for this outdoor gym at Cowdray Square Playing Fields. The equipment is free and accessible for everyone to use, and we hope our residents - both young and old - will make good use of it to keep fit outdoors in the fresh air.”

Helen Bushell, Head of Regional Funding for London, the South East and East of England at The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant will make a big difference to the wellbeing of the community in Deal. We’re delighted our funding will be used to bring communities together through accessible fitness, and provide the vital tools they need to enjoy happier, healthier lives.”
