Key Bridge and Culvert Works to Make a Splash With Environmental Improvements for Sandwich

Key new bridge and culvert works in Sandwich are set to enhance water quality, improve local waterways, and help the local environment for the historic town.

The £50k project includes a new bridge over the stream to The Butts in Sandwich, and enhancements to an existing bridge/culvert to improve water flow. The new bridge will allow vehicles to access a neighbouring Council-owned field so that dredged materials can be deposited away from busier public areas during future environmental works.

Works are due to start in November, and to take around 4 weeks. The work is being carried out by Aylesham-based Ovenden Allworks.

The Parks and Open Spaces team continues to work closely with the River Stour Internal Drainage Board in managing the local streams.

Cllr Charlotte Zosseder, DDC Cabinet Member for Community and Corporate Property said: “We are very pleased to be able to start these new works.  This will improve water flow and reduce the build-up of stagnant silt and mud around the existing bridge. This will benefit the local environment, as well as support water management and help with flood prevention.”
