Community groups in the district are being given a key funding boost to help local people with the cost of living – with the announcement of more than £86,000 being awarded to 59 different groups across the area.

DDC’s Cost of Living Community Impact Fund is providing this funding to help local charities, Community Interest Companies and community groups deliver their immensely important work in our communities.  The funding includes £7,500 from the Dover District Lotto and £30,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The Cost of Living Community Impact Fund has been developed from the long-standing DDC Community Grants Scheme.

Under the funding initiative, applicants have been invited to apply for between £100 and £2,500.  There is one round of funding for 23/24 and the grants are to help people with the cost of living, focusing on supporting communities in financial hardship.

Successful applicants were chosen by an Appraisal Panel at Dover District Council in December.

Successful applicants who are benefitting from the fund include: the Dover Outreach Centre; Deal Area Foodbank; Sandwich Age Concern; the Aylesham Community Trust; Alkham Valley Community Project; Home-Start Dover District; and Dover, Deal and District Citizens Advice.

Cllr Charlotte Zosseder, DDC Cabinet Member for Community said: “We are very pleased to provide this important funding, and to confirm the successful applicants, and to be able to help local groups to provide help to those who need it the most.

“Volunteers are essential to the well-being of our communities, and we are delighted to offer this funding to help support projects bridging the cost of living gap for local communities.”
