Dover District Council has taken key steps to reinforce a commitment to continue to work with partners to tackle and prevent anti-social behaviour and to support victims.
This follows news that DDC has adopted a new Community Safety Anti-Social Behaviour Policy and has signed up for the ASB Help PLEDGE.
Dover District Council’s Cabinet agreed to adopt the Community Safety Anti-Social Behaviour Policy at its meeting on 6 July. The policy sets out how DDC works with partners to deter and tackle ASB across the district, and sets out key priorities and procedures, including the process for ASB case reviews.
DDC has also been presented with a certificate from ASB Help (pictured above) to recognise that it has signed the ASB Help PLEDGE. The PLEDGE is a commitment by organizations to support victims of ASB through case reviews.
ASB Help is a registered charity set up to provide advice and support victims of ASB. It launched The PLEDGE to encourage agencies involved in the ASB case review process to embed best practice into their policy and procedures.
The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 introduced specific measures designed to give victims and communities a say in the way that complaints of antisocial behaviour are dealt with. This includes the anti-social behaviour case review, which gives victims of persistent antisocial behaviour reported to any of the main responsible agencies the right to request a case review where a local threshold is met.
Cllr Michael Nee, DDC Cabinet Member for community safety said: “We continue to work closely with all our partners to keep the district a safe place. However, we do understand how distressing persistent anti-social behaviour can be, and we are very pleased to reinforce our commitment to tackling issues and ensuring people are given a voice, and to have adopted this new policy and signed the ASB Help PLEDGE.”
Angela Denison from ASB Help said: “ASB Help are delighted that Dover District Council have signed up to our ASB Help Pledge which demonstrates their commitment in supporting partners in promoting best practice for the ASB Case Review. In doing so they are ensuring that victims of ASB in Dover have a voice.”
