Local groups throng to meet community funders

Press Release 21 June 2016

Community groups from around the Aylesham area seized the chance to meet with fund-holders at a workshop in the village on Monday (20 June 2016), organised by Dover District Council.

Nearly 40 people representing clubs and voluntary sector groups registered for workshops on bid writing, applying  to the council’s  Community Grants fund, the Port of Dover Community Fund  and several Kent County Council programmes.

Visitors could also register for 1:1 sessions with representatives from the Big Lottery, the Heritage Lottery, the Arts Council and the Kent Community Foundation. Kent County Council, Dover District Council and Red Zebra held drop-in sessions with a range of general funding advice.

DDC community development manager Rachel Collins said afterwards:  “It was a pleasure to see so many people brave bad weather to meet representatives from the various fund-holders.

“The idea of an event like this is to give voluntary organisations, clubs and groups the confidence to apply for grants to fund their community projects and to show what support is available to help them do this.”

“I would like to thank Aylesham charity Bechange for being so welcoming and hosting the event at their base at the Aylesham and District Community Workshop Trust, and also thank you to all the funders for once again supporting a funding event in our district.”

Ends.
