Council Tax is a local resident’s contribution towards the cost of local services provided. The District Council collects Council Tax for Kent County Council, Kent Police Authority, and Town and Parish Councils, as well as the charge for District Council services. For every £100 paid in Council Tax, about £78 will be passed to Kent County Council for services such as Education, Highways and Social Services, about £9 to the Kent Police Authority, and an average of £3 to Town and Parish Councils. The District Council keep the remaining £10 to pay for the services Dover Council provides. Further information about Council Tax
Some people may qualify for help in paying the Tax, if on a low-income. This is known as Council Tax Benefit.
The full Council Tax bill assumes there are two or more adults (that is, people aged 18 or over) living in a dwelling.
If you are on a low-income, receiving benefits, for example Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support or state retirement pension, you may be entitled to some help with your rent through the Housing Benefit Scheme.
