Building Control
Do my neighbours have the right to object to what is proposed
in my Building Regulation application?
No. While there is no requirement in the Building Regulations to
consult neighbours, it can be courteous for you to do so.
Objections may be raised under other legislation, particularly if
your proposal is subject to permission under the Town and Country
Planning Acts.
Important: Please be aware that you may need to
write to your neighbours at least “two calendar
months” before you start work because this is a
requirement of the Party Wall Act 1996 and certain works need your
neighbour’s agreement. Details about the act, which is civil law
and does not involve the Council can be found on the Planning
Portal web site.
