Building Control Service

The primary purpose of the Building Control Service is to ensure the health and safety of people in and around buildings. This is achieved in a number of different ways, listed below, some of which are proactive measures, while others are reactive.

The Team

The Building Control Service is staffed with experienced and appropriately qualified personnel. All staff undergo suitable training every year to allow them to continue with their professional development and to ensure that they have the necessary skills and up to date knowledge to provide a high quality service to our clients and the general public.

The Building Control Surveyors generally work within specified areas of the District. This allows them to become very familiar with their particular area and build up a unique knowledge relating to matters such as site history and ground conditions.

What does the Local Authority Building Control Offer?

Operating in accordance with the Building Act 1984, Dover District Council is legally responsible for the administration and enforcement of building regulations. These are standards concerned principally with safety, health, energy conservation, and access to buildings for disabled people either at home, at work or at leisure. The service is known as "Building Control". The Council employs Building Control Officers to provide a service which is both independent and impartial. The following provides answers to some of the more commonly asked questions and is generally aimed at householders. Other aspects of Building Control can be much more complex and require answers of a more specific nature. However should you be in doubt about any area of the Service please do not hesitate to contact one of the Building Control Officers who will assist you further.
