Farm Business Advice Service – “Knowing Your Options” in the South East and London.
Farmers in the South East and London now have access to free, impartial help and advice through Defra’s Farm Business Advice Service (FBAS).
Over the next 18 months, FBAS will provide a great opportunity for farmers to review their farming structure and adjust their business to suit the changing agricultural and environmental climate.
Farmers are facing a massive change to the way in which they are supported and shouldn’t be aiming to continue with business as usual. FBAS will focus on the impact that the Single Payment Scheme may have on their individual farm businesses.
FBAS Project Manager, Dr Paul Fisher of Momenta explains how the service works, "We will be able to give bespoke advice to farmers who contact us, either over the phone, at clinics or farm visits. Our experienced adviser team will take farmers through the business implications of the SPS's introduction and explore future options for their enterprise, be it restructuring, diversifying into non-farming activities, co-operation with other farmers or, for some, leaving the industry. Advisers will also signpost customers on to other sources of advice and help."
Funds are limited and farmers are urged to act fast, as FBAS will be done on a first come first served basis. There are a number of eligibility criteria that have to be met in order to receive the service:
Please telephone the FBAS Enquiry Line on 0845 365 1257
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
FBAS is being delivered by Momenta, the environmental arm of AEA Technology.
