Supporting Business in Dover

Future Developments

Port of DoverThe Port of Dover

The Port of Dover Project Plan, jointly developed by Kent County Council, Dover District Council and Dover Harbour Board, sets out a number of initiatives to facilitate the predicted future growth of the port.

Road and Rail Infrastructure

The future successful operation of the port is dependent on the continuing improvement of its supporting road and rail. Improvements to roads, which provide access to the port are needed to improve the distribution and flow of traffic particularly at peak times, and a rail connection to the port to provide an alternative to road freight and further improve access to the cruise terminal.

Port Infrastructure

The Harbour Board aims to build on the current efficiency of Dover by implementing a number of improvements to increase the speed of throughput, through processing and access to the port.

  • Remodelling of the Hoverport to better accommodate Seacat traffic
  • Improvement of Western Docks road access
  • Extension of the Eastern Docks elevated roadway
  • Creation of two new berths at Pier F (Eastern Docks) subsequent to a proven need
  • Extension of Pier C (Eastern Docks) to accommodate new SeaFrance vessel
