Project DELTA

roject DELTA is a Healthy Living Network for the Dover District and is a government initiative, which works with statutory and voluntary organisations and communities alike. DELTA is an acronym for Dover Enabling Living Thinking and Achieving and covers the ten most deprived wards in the Dover District: Buckland, St. Radigund’s, Town & Pier, Castle, Priory, Tower Hamlets, Aylesham, North Deal, Mongeham* and Mill Hill.

*Mongeham is no longer a ward but is now part of Eastry ward. However, we still endeavour to deliver activities to the residents of the Mongeham village.

Partnership and Joint Funding

The project is an excellent example of targeted partnership working, pooling resources, and funding into agreed priorities. The major funding is from the Big Lottery Fund (formerly the New Opportunities Fund), with significant contributions, both financial and resources, from Dover District Council, East Kent Coastal Primary Care Trust, Single Regeneration Budget, SureStart Dover, Kent Fire & Rescue Service and Kent Council for Addiction.

An officer employed through Dover District Council and part funded by Eastern & Coastal Kent Primary Care Trust, manages the project on a day-to-day basis. This has enhanced the ability and means to share information across the accountable bodies. The targets and funding of the project are furthered and challenged by the Project DELTA Management Board, which meet on a quarterly basis and consider each of the five major projects:

DELTA is a very exciting project with opportunities over a five-year period to facilitate life-changing opportunities for communities within the Dover District. Sustainability is vital and integral with projects designed to see how they can be replicated across other parts of the district and how they will continue beyond the life of the DELTA funding (End of November 2007). This includes empowering community members and encouraging them to commit to the project and, more importantly, to the vitality of their community as a whole.
