Aim: To reduce injuries sustained through accidents in the home involving older people and those with disabilities. (60+ and all age registered disabled)
This scheme is managed through the In Touch Home Improvement Agency (previously care & repair) based at 1 Maison Dieu Road, Dover. The handyperson service has provided advice and practical assistance to clients seeking to carry out small repairs and installation of safety equipment* to their property that will enable them to remain living comfortably and independently in their own homes. The type of work carried out includes the installation of hand rails in toilets and bathrooms, stair banisters, chair raisers, key safes and jobs requiring steps/height e.g. installation of curtain poles/tracks. Some work is carried out to the exterior of properties e.g. securing gates and levelling uneven pathways and steps. Referrals to this scheme can either be made in person by the client, their family, carer or by a health or social care professional.
*The cost of the equipment itself may be charged according to the individual’s ability to pay as the Care & Repair agency have the ability to means test clients.
