Project DELTA

Home Safety Equipment Loan Scheme

Aim: To reduce the number of preventable accidents within the home for children aged 0-4 years.

Children’s Safety equipment can often be expensive and many families in the DELTA wards cannot afford to buy everything that is needed to keep their children safe from scalds, falls and burns within the home. DELTA allows health visitors, council environmental health and housing staff, SureStart workers and those who work within Social Services to refer needy families to this loan service. The scheme has so far managed to help more than 547 families* since it started.

* as at May 2007.

The type of equipment available is listed below:

  • Safety Gates
  • Fireguards
  • Socket covers
  • Bed guards
  • Cupboard locks
  • Window locks (for wooden windows only)
  • Cooker guards
  • Fridge locks
  • Door slammers
  • Anti-scald plugs

As well as the DELTA scheme, the East Kent Community NHS Trust health visiting service also have a very limited budget to help those families living outside of the DELTA ward areas. Please contact health visiting direct.

If you would like to know more about this service please contact Norman Blackford, Home Safety Equipment Loan Coordinator on 01304 872319.
