Supporting Public Health

Reducing health inequalities

Government has placed greater emphasis on the role of local authorities to deliver improvements in public health. We recognise the key role which local government needs to play in promoting ‘public health’ and its renewed opportunities to promote the wellbeing of the communities within the county.

Underpinning our strategic objectives is the opportunity to demonstrate a commitment to a wider understanding of health and well being, improved co-operation, effective joined-up working, sustained community development and public involvement.

Through partnership working council services are taking a coherent approach to the health delivery plans of the Primary Care Trusts and the input to Local Strategic Partnerships at PCT District Council level.

We are committed to building upon our ability to take a comprehensive overview of the needs and priorities of local communities and importantly, be actively involved in key elements of public health work to meet those needs.
