Consultation on new executive governance arrangements

The Council is required to replace its existing executive
governance arrangements with either a new 'strong' leader model and
cabinet or an elected mayor and cabinet as a consequence of
provisions in the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health
Act 2007. As part of this process the Council, at its meeting held
on 28 July 2010, has stated its preferred executive governance
arrangement for the purposes of conducting consultation.
A final decision will be made at the meeting of the Council to
be held on 1 December 2010. In reaching its decision the Council is
required to consider which option 'would be likely to assist in
securing continuous improvement in the way in which the local
authority's functions are exercised, having regard to a combination
of economy, efficiency and effectiveness'.
