Chairman of the Council 2011-12

Councillor Sylvia Nicholas

 

Councillor Sue Nicholas was elected as Chairman of the Council on 18 May 2011. Councillor Nicholas represents the Ward of River.

 

Career:   

Councillor Sue Nicholas has been a District Councillor since 1987, representing River with Alkham, where the urban area unfolds into beautiful countryside.

 

Over the past twenty-four years Councillor Nicholas has served on numerous committees, including being Chairman of Scrutiny for three years and was formerly Cabinet member for Housing and Community. Cllr Nicholas was Vice-Chairman of the Council during the last municipal year.  Currently Councillor Nicholas is Lead Member for the Museum.

 

Councillor Nicholas has also been a Trustee of Age Concern Dover, Town and Rural, as well as a Trustee for the Dover Municipal Charities.

 

Councillor Nicholas formerly served as a Governor of St Radigunds Primary school for ten years, serving as Chairman for four of those years and has also been a Governor for the Dover Federation of the Arts.

 

Councillor Nicholas has always taken an active part in village life taking up many important issues such as the sale of the River Recreation Ground, improvements to the Village School and securing bus services. 

 

 Family: 

Councillor Nicholas is a widow with three adult children and three grandchildren.

 

 Interests:  

Councillor Nicholas enjoys organising events and yearly puts on a party for senior residents, as well as helping with fund raising for various village organisations.  Time permitting, Councillor Nicholas enjoys embroidery and gardening.
