Exciting Times

Artist's ImpressionA once in a life-time opportunity to strengthen links between the town of Dover and its port comes as a fantastic range of major developments are coming together for a world-class future for Dover and the district.

These include:

  • The major news that the high speed train service is coming in 2009
  • Work on the £100m investment in the second phase of the White Cliffs Business Park has begun, and is set to provide up to 1,800 jobs, with construction of access roads well advanced and commencement on the B&Q site
  • Improvements to Dover Priory Station
  • Work starting on the Dover Sea Sports Centre
  • Proposals for the redevelopment of Buckland Mill and Connaught Barracks continue to move forward
  • Plans for the expansion of South Kent College are also in hand

Great progress continues to be made on the comprehensive redevelopment of Dover Town Centre, (Dover Town Investment Zone, or DTIZ), underpinned by the Asda Superstore. Planners have granted permission (accepted by the Government) subject to conditions and legal agreements which are being finalised. DDC has purchased key sites, including the Stagecoach Bus Depot and the Charringtons site, with help from the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). Development partners Bond City and Asda are drawing up plans to purchase the remaining land and for the archaeological and soil surveys that need to be carried out.
