Building A Bright Future

Pictures of projectsMajor regeneration work continues to take shape, with Dover District Council and a range of partners in the community continuing to work together for the future of the area.

A range of major developments moving forward for the district includes:

  • Dover Priory - improvements continue to be made to the station, including the approach to the station, ready for the arrival of the high speed rail link in 2009
  • White Cliffs Business Park - construction is ongoing on the 2nd phase of the White Cliffs Business Park, with roads going in to the site through to phase 1, and significant progress made on the new B&Q
  • Dover Sea Sports Centre - construction work is progressing well on the major new Sea Sports Centre on Dover seafront, with a scheduled opening due in August
  • Deal Pier - major works begin in April on site for a new café bar and improvements (see p5)
  • Connaught Barracks - following the acquisition of the site by English Partnerships, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with DDC to chart the way forward for plans for a nationally acknowledged scheme of eco-excellence, whilst making the best use of Fort Burgoyne
  • Aylesham - ground breaking plans for the development of Aylesham, including 1,100 homes together with job opportunities, community services, and related infrastructure, continue to move forward through the planning process
  • Port plans to build on world leading position with an additional terminal, and partnership proposals for a stunning new waterfront for Dover, including linkage to the town centre via a state-of-the-art landbridge, continue to be developed.

Addressing The Future

As part of our ongoing work to address the future of the district, a wide range of exciting developments of all sizes is showing the way forward - and between September and December, proposals for the naming of nine new or extended roads were actioned at DDC. New roads that have been named include Galahad Way, Tristram Way, Trafalgar Drive and Queens Courtyard.
