Feed In Tariff Scheme (FITs)

The Government introduced a clean energy cash back scheme (known as Feed in Tariff Scheme) in April 2010.   If you have installed, or are thinking about installing, a renewable technology that produces electricity, you may be able to get paid for the electricity it produces.

 

The scheme covers the following electricity-generating technologies (up to an installation size of 5 Mega Watts and must be fitted by a MCS accredited installer):

 

  • Solar electricity PV (Photo Voltaic)
  • Wind turbine
  • Hydro electricity
  • Anaerobic digestion
  • Micro combined heat and power (mCHP) (pilot scheme only at this stage)

 

You will be entitled to:

 

  • A Generation Tariff – A fixed payment for every kWh generated
  • An Export Tariff A payment for every kWh exported to the grid
  • The use of electricity for free whilst it is being produced.

 

These payments will be:

 

  • no less frequent than quarterly
  • index linked to RPI (Retail Price Index)
  • tax free for domestic customers

 

The FIT payment rate for an Eligibile Installation of a description specified in the first column with an Eligibility Date on or after 1 April 2010 and before 1 April 2012 is the applicable rate specified in the corresponding entry in the column for the FIT Year in which the installation's Eligibility Date falls.

 

The FIT payment rates apply in respect of electricity generated or exported on or after 1 April 2012.  The FIT payment rates applying in respect of electricity generated or exported before 1 April 2012 are those set out in the FIT Payment Rate Table which was in force at the time of such generation or export.

All FIT payment rates are pence per kilowatt hour at 2012/13 values.

 

The rates above have been adjusted by the annual RPI rate (as at December 2011) of 4.8 percent, except for those marked with an ‘*’. FIT payment rates in respect of FIT Year 4 and subsequent FIT Years are subject to adjustment under clause 3 of Part 1 of Schedule A as a result of changes in the Retail Price Index.
