Noise
Noise is unwanted sound and may affect us at
home, causing problems for us and our families. However, we are not
entitled to silence and a certain amount of noise has to be
tolerated. There are many sources of noise that can cause problems,
the most common being neighbours noise and dog barking. Other noise
sources that are controllable include pubs and clubs, DIY,
construction sites and alarms. Some noise is not controllable, such
as from road, rail or air traffic and some noise is unavoidable on
construction sites.
Our Environmental Protection Team can assist
with many noise issues, often just giving advice or providing
details of local mediation services. However, there are times when
enforcement action becomes necessary and this is also possible by
the Environmental Protection Team. Noise can be most disturbing at
night, so the Environmental Protection Team provides a limited out
of hours service during times when people can be reasonably
expected to be asleep. In the majority of cases you will need
a reference number before a visit can be made. For further
details please fill out the form below or contact the Environmental
Protection Team during office hours.
