Registering a Business
Since 6 April 2009 most new businesses no longer need to
register with the local authority or Health and Safety Executive
(HSE).
However if you work with hazardous substances, such as asbestos
or explosives, or in a hazardous industry such as construction or
diving, you may need to apply for a licence or notify the local
authority or HSE. If in doubt contact the Environmental Health
department.
Although there is no longer a requirement to register under the
Office Shops and Railway Premises Act it is important to ensure
that the Environmental Health Department has up to date information
on businesses within the district for health and safety purposes.
Please contact a member of the department to notify us of any new
businesses, changes to the business e.g. change of ownership or
management, change to the main business activity or the closure of
a business.
The Environmental Health department can be contacted on 01304
872216 or at envhealth@dover.gov.uk.
Please Note: All food businesses must still be
registered with the local authority using the Food Business
Registration Form. For more information please see the Food
Safety section.
