Following the publication of the Stage 4 report which looked in detail at sulphur dioxide emissions from shipping, Dover District Council have produced an Action Plan to look at options for remediation of the sulphur dioxide problem at Dover Eastern Docks.
During the compilation of the report, Dover District Council were pleased to receive the co-operation of both the Dover Harbour Authority and P & O Ferries Ltd. Both remain members of the Stakeholders Group, which was set up as part of the consultation process.
Improvement in sulphur levels relies much on impending European legislation which is currently being debated and the success of flue gas de-sulphurisation trials which are currently being undertaken by P &O Ferries Ltd.
