Getting a home from the Council

How homes are let

Empty Council homes are let to those in the greatest housing need. The degree of housing need is assessed by using a points scheme.

Homes are let either to people of families on the Housing Register (sometimes called the waiting list), to households who are Homeless or to existing tenants who need a transfer.

Properties are usually let to the people with the most number of points. Wherever possible we try to take account of the areas where people want to live but in some parts of the district and for some property sizes, we only rarely get vacancies.
