Dover District Council is committed to ensure that the right benefit gets to the right people. We aspire to make the service the best it can be. Our vision is:
‘By March 2006 Dover District Council will aspire to meet the Government's Performance Standards Framework for benefits so that its customers receive the quick, secure, accurate and courteous service wethat they deserve.'
We wish to pay benefit quickly but will also prevent and detect fraud. We will seek to punish those who are found guilty of committing benefit fraud.
The service will strive to achieve the correct level of sanctions for detected fraud and will seek to encourage a district-wide anti fraud culture within the welfare benefits area.
As part of this aim we have published a counter-fraud statement on our Intranet and Internet sites. This statement sets out the way in which the Council will deliver a firm but fair benefit service and provides a summary of our counter-fraud aims and objectives. The statement also contains an overview of the Council's policy on sanctions for offenders, from warnings to cautions and ultimately prosecution.
