The Collection of Life Histories
Interviews can either focus on a particular topic or follow a life history approach that seeks to locate experiences within the context of the interviewee’s life. The CHIK project has chosen to collect ‘whole life’ histories and the archive not only contains varied accounts of working practices in the collieries but also experiences of schooling, childhood games, sporting activities, and also a wide range of social, domestic and cultural relationships which combine to create the vibrant and distinctive coalfield communities of Kent.
