Porfolio of Play Projects

National Lottery funding Logo

Pencester Gardens Play Area (£150,000)

The grant will help pay for the complete refurbishment and re-design of the above play area.

The improvements are aimed to raise the standards of provision and to attract more users to a high quality play area with a significantly better range & design of equipment. It will be an inclusive play area & cater for a wider age group. It will be a strategic facility, larger that the existing play area, and will accomodate parents, guardians and carers within a socially integrated setting.

The consultation process with the user groups and key stakeholders regarding the location and finer design detail of the project took place throughout October and November 2008. See link to consultation reports belwo for more information. The estimated completion date is June 2008.

Deal Skate Park (£50,000)

The existing skate park is constructed of galvinised steel ramps installed on the surface of two old tennis courts. The facility is designed for skating but is intensively used by several extreme sports which has contributed to it's present poor condition. This provides an excellent opportunity to re-locate the skate park within Victoria Park Recreation Ground to provide a much larger and robust concrete facility to cater for the needs of the young people and the following activities:- skating, in line skating, skateboarding and bmx riding. Lighting and CCTV are also to be included.

The District Council has allocated £40,000 from its capital budget and secured a further £158,500 from Kent County Council, Dover Local Board Members towards this project. A further £50,000 from Big Lottery will achieve the desired budget and overall design.

Design consultation workshops with the users and key stakeholders took place in August and September 2007. The concrete design of the skate park together with provision of lighting and CCTV will enable young people across a wide age range and mixed ability to participate in free play and in a safe environment.

The estimated completion date for this project is August 2008.

Marke Wood Play Area, Deal (£57,702)

The grant will help to pay for the partial refurbishment and re-design of the existing play area.

The improvements are aimed to raise the standards of provision and to attract more users. Accordingly, the project will strive to improve play value by encompassing modern design. This will inlcude creative equipment to help increase the sites appeal to a wider age group. Measurements to further improve access and inclusivity for all children will be incorporated to the designs.

The consultation process with the user groups and key stakeholders regarding the location and finer design detail of the project took place throughout October and November 2008. See link to consultation reports below for more information. The estimated completion date is June 2008.
