Central government are looking to support (through the Big Lottery) projects that are self directed, creative, and fun, and will facilitate the promotion of a long term positive change in attitude locally, regarding the importance of children’s Play. These play principles are relevant to the 'Every Child Matters Framework' that local authorities are now working towards.
In September 2006, Dover District Council set up and facilitated the Dover District Play Partnership. The Play Partnership is made up of a variety of organisations and agencies involved in the Play sector. It has been working to address issues of Play provision across the District and produced a Play Strategy earlier this year.
The purpose of the Dover District Play strategy is to reinforce the importance of Play for children and young people and to identify ways in which play opportunities and experiences can be increased and enhanced across Dover District.

The working document was taken to Cabinet in February 2007 and approval was given to submit an application to Big Lottery Children’s Play Programme for specific Play projects. We are delighted to announce the success of this bid and confirm the District has been awarded £257,702 for it’s portfolio of Play projects.
