General

There has been a change in the licensing regime from the Justices system, administered by the Magistrate’s court, to the licensing authority at Dover District Council. The licences below are dealt with under the
Licensing Act 2003.

The new licences are effective from 24th November 2005. You will need to have applied for and received your new licence, as from this date the following licences will cease to have effect:

  • Alcohol (all justices' licences)
  • Public Entertainment
  • Theatre/Stage Play
  • Cinema
  • Indoor Sports
  • Late Night Refreshment (non-alcohol) between 11.00pm and 5.00am
  • Registered Members Clubs

A new licence will be required for any of the following activities:

  • The sale by retail of alcohol
  • The supply of alcohol in registered clubs
  • The provision of regulated entertainment ie performance of a play, exhibition of a film, indoor sporting event, boxing or wrestling, performance of live or provision of recorded music and performance of dance or dancing.
  • The provision of late night refreshment (hot food or drink served between 11pm and 5am)

The law with regard to children in licensed premises has been changed to promote a more family orientated atmosphere. This is dependent on the type of premises and whether the primary trade is the sale of alcohol. Full details...
