Alcohol Use Questionnaire
The debate about safe levels of alcohol consumption will no
doubt carry on for many years. The question is do we really have an
accurate overview on our own individual consumption levels?
The questions below come from a survey being carried out by
Harbour Alcohol Audit in the southwest of England and have been
copied from the BBC website.
Answer the following ten questions about your use of alcohol.
Write down your scores and then add up the grand total.
1. How often do you have a drink containing alcohol?
- Never (0 points)
- Monthly (1 point)
- Less 2-4 times a month (2 points)
- 2-3 times a week (3 points)
- 4 or more times a week (4 points)
2. How many drinks containing alcohol do you have on a typical
day when you are drinking?
- 1 or 2 (0 points)
- 3 or 4 (1 point)
- 5 or 6 (2 points)
- 7 to 9 (3 points)
- 10 or more (4 points)
3. How often do you have six or more drinks on one occasion?

4. How often during the last year have you found that you were
not able to stop drinking once you had started?

If you scored more than eight points out of a potential
40, you should think about your alcohol consumption.
If you have a very high score, you should get advice on
your alcohol consumption from a specialist counselling
service.
