Dangerous Wild Animals
Veterinary Inspections
Before the local authority cannot issue a licence until the
premises have been inspected by a veterinary surgeon or
practitioner and submitted a report that will allow the local
authority to make a balanced decision based on the suitability of
the premises to keep a dangerous wild animal and any other concerns
that may be raised. The fee for the veterinary inspection must be
paid by the applicant prior to the licence being issued.
Any licence issued will be subject to certain mandatory
conditions but may also be subject to any other conditions that the
local authority deem to be necessary to meet the requirements
above.
If the local authority refuses to grant a licence under this act
or the applicant is aggrieved by any of the conditions attached he
or she may appeal to a magistrates court stating the reasons for
the appeal.
The local authority may authorise a veterinary surgeon or
practitioner to inspect any premises where an application has been
made or where a licence is in force under this act may inspect the
premises and any animal specified. Such inspection may be made at
any reasonable time. The fee for such inspection must be met by the
licence holder or applicant.
