Dangerous Wild Animals

Veterinary Inspections

Before the local authority cannot issue a licence until the premises have been inspected by a veterinary surgeon or practitioner and submitted a report that will allow the local authority to make a balanced decision based on the suitability of the premises to keep a dangerous wild animal and any other concerns that may be raised. The fee for the veterinary inspection must be paid by the applicant prior to the licence being issued.

Any licence issued will be subject to certain mandatory conditions but may also be subject to any other conditions that the local authority deem to be necessary to meet the requirements above.

If the local authority refuses to grant a licence under this act or the applicant is aggrieved by any of the conditions attached he or she may appeal to a magistrates court stating the reasons for the appeal.

The local authority may authorise a veterinary surgeon or practitioner to inspect any premises where an application has been made or where a licence is in force under this act may inspect the premises and any animal specified. Such inspection may be made at any reasonable time. The fee for such inspection must be met by the licence holder or applicant.
