Autumn 2008 - Terms 1 & 2
All the school days are suitable for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 pupils.
Sessions will be adapted to the age and special requirements of your pupils. We can also arrange other workshops and talks to fit in with your curriculum.

Groups are very welcome to extend their day by visiting Dover Museum before or after their sessions at no extra cost. Education rooms are available for pupils to eat packed lunch in or for preparation and follow up work. A gift shop is available at the Museum selling a variety of educational and pocket money priced items.
Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss the particular requirements of your pupils or if you wish to try and arrange a workshop on a different day to those stated.

ART AND HISTORY WORKSHOPS
A range of history and art workshops are available during Autumn 2008, terms 5 & 6. All workshops last for two hours and the cost is £2.50 per pupil with accompanying adults free. For schools from the Dover District Council area the cost is £2.25 with accompanying adults free.

KEY STAGE 1 HISTORY OF THE SEASIDE
Half day session combining a talk on what seaside holidays were like in the past with particular reference to Dover with a practical art workshop making simple finger puppet and finding out how seaside holidays have changed since their Victorian beginnings.
HOMES
Half-day session combining a talk and an artefact handling session on ‘What Homes Were Like In The Past’ with a practical art workshop using the museum galleries as an inspiration for drawing to create a Time Tree.
TOYS
Half-day session combining a talk and artefact handling session on ‘How our Toys Are Different From Those In The Past’ with a practical art workshop drawing toys to create a large collage.
TRANSPORT
Half-day session combining a tour of parts of the museum looking at different kinds of transport, in particular the Bronze Age Boat with a hands on talk and observational drawing workshop looking at the development of modern transport from the invention of the hot air balloon and steam engine.
KEY STAGES 1, 2 & 3 ANCIENT GREEKS & ARCHAEOLOGISTS
Half day session combining a fun art session looking at Greek gods and goddesses and then creating a Greek style picture plate with a talk on what an archaeologist does and the chance to look at artefacts the way archaeologists do.

ANGLO-SAXONS 1 - SETTLEMENTS
Half-day session combining a talk on everyday life in the Anglo-Saxon period with a practical art workshop on making Anglo-Saxon settlements using a 3D map of settlement and small card models of Anglo-Saxon buildings.
ANGLO-SAXON 2 – WEAVING
Half-day session combining a talk on everyday life in the Anglo-Saxon period with a practical art workshop on weaving using a simplified weaving technique based on the loom method used by the Anglo-Saxons.
EGYPTIANS & ARCHAEOLOGISTS
A fun session of Egyptian wall painting (on a roll of paper), making a frieze for the classroom. Find out what it was like to use basic art materials and then scale up tiny ideas onto vast walls. This is combined with a talk on what an archaeologist does and the chance to look at artefacts the way archaeologists do.

Half-day session combining a talk and artefact handling session on everyday life in Roman Britain with a practical workshop on mosaic making using real tessera.
ROMANS AND ART 2 - CELTS AND ROMANS

Hands on talk and observational drawing workshop on what it was like for Roman/Celtic children.
SHAKESPEARE’S THEATRE
Half-day session combining a talk and artefact handling session on everyday life at the time of Shakespeare with a practical art workshop creating your own collage Shakespearean mask using a variety of techniques.
TUDORS AND ART
Half-day session combining a talk and artefact handling session on living in the Tudor period with a practical art workshop on Tudor Block printing.
VICTORIANS AND ART
Half-day session combining a talk and artefact handling session on what it was like living in the Victorian period with a practical art workshop on Victorian embossed clay tiles.
VIKINGS AND ART 1 – MOBILES
Half-day session combining a talk and artefact handling session on every day life in the Viking period with a practical art workshop where Viking art forms are used to create mobiles for the classroom.
