Deal Indoor Tennis Centre - Work Set To Begin
Construction on an exciting new £1.3m permanent indoor tennis
centre for Deal is set to start this autumn – this follows news
that Dover District Council has received confirmation of a £530,000
funding package from the Lawn Tennis Association.
The new tennis centre, featuring four indoor acrylic courts,
will be built alongside the Tides Leisure Pool in Deal, and will be
managed by Vista Leisure. Work by contractors WW Martins is due to
start in October and is expected to be complete by May
2011.
In addition to the sum from the LTA, funding is coming from a
number of sources, including monies from the insurance settlement
following the destruction of the ‘tennis bubble’ in 2007, and funds
from DDC.
Cllr Nigel Collor, DDC Cabinet Member for Access and Property
Management, said: “The new tennis centre will give the opportunity
for increased participation levels in sport and provide a superb
permanent facility for those seeking to achieve excellence, as well
as supporting our transformational regeneration agenda for the
district.”
Cllr Sue Chandler, DDC Cabinet Member for Community, Housing and
Youth said: “This is excellent news for the area, and is a key part
of our ongoing commitment to support communities for the
future. We would like to thank everyone who has worked so
hard for this and we thank the LTA for its fantastic support of
this important facility.”
Tudor Rowe, Kent Tennis Development Manager said: “Dover
District Council and Vista Leisure have put in a huge amount of
work on this application and should be congratulated. This is a
fantastic project for the area and having four permanent, high
quality, indoor courts will allow a significant increase in
activity - both competitive and social which is great news for Kent
and British Tennis alike.”
