Feel Alive At Fowlmead Country Park
Feel Alive returned to Fowlmead Country Park on Sunday 15 August
- and around 1,500 people came along to join in the fun with a
fantastic range of free activities.
A packed day featured a wide range of things to do, and the
chance for people of all ages and abilities to try their hand at
different sports. Activities included: kite landboarding, clay
pigeon shooting, orienteering, geochaching, (a state of the art
treasure hunt using GPS systems), archery and golf, country walks
and ‘pond dipping’, as well as free hire of mountain bikes, hand
cycles and tandems, the chance to enjoy BMX and bike trial display
teams, and much more. There was also the opportunity to try out the
new play area at Fowlmead, which has already been a great
success.
The event at Fowlmead Country Park follows the success of two
previous Feel Alive events at Victoria Park, Deal in June, and
Pencester Gardens, Dover in July. Events were co-ordinated with the
input of ‘Active Dover’, the district’s Community Sports Network,
and jointly funded by the Town, District and County Councils
working together with local leisure providers.
DDC’s Sports Development Officer Sarah Philpott said: “Feel
Alive has been a great success again this year, and it really is a
pleasure to see the smiles on people’s faces as they take on a new
challenge and succeed. Feel Alive is all about raising
awareness of where sport and recreational activities take place
locally, and encouraging people of all ages and abilities to get
involved and stay healthy in the long term. We are delighted
at the success of this year’s events, and would like to thank all
the organisations that were involved and everyone who came
along.”
Cllr Sue Chandler, DDC Cabinet Member for Community, Housing and
Youth said: “It has been great to see so many families and young
people and people of all ages at all three events enjoying the day
and finding exciting ways to keep active.”
