Kent Structure Plan

For many years the Kent Structure Plan (more recently, the Kent and Medway Structure Plan) has been an essential part of the Development Plan alongside the saved policies in the Dover District Local Plan. The policies of these plans forms the starting point for the Council to consider whether to grant permission when planning applications are made.

During May, the South East Plan  was approved. It covers the whole of the South East Region and now forms part of the Development Plan. Its policies, while rather more strategic, must also now be taken into account.

From 6 July 2009, the Kent and Medway Structure Plan will be redundant and so will no longer be taken into account. The South East Plan and the Dover District Local Plan will together form the Development Plan from that date.

Prospective applicants and their professional agents should bear these policy changes in mind when preparing their applications and supporting documents pursuant to the Council's formal Validation process.
