Changes to Permitted Development Rights

You may have seen references in the national press to changes, which are to be effective from 1 October 2008.

They relate to a range of developments, which may be undertaken by householders without planning permission, and include significant amendments to the existing restrictions on extensions to dwellings and outbuildings. New restrictions have been introduced on chimneys, flues and soil and vent pipes and on hardstandings in front gardens if they lack porous surfaces or a direct run-off to a permeable or a porous surface. There are many other detailed changes.

Further details are available from the Planning Portal at www.planningportal.gov.uk

If you wish to find out whether you need planning permission for your proposal, please submit an application for a Lawful Development Certificate for a Proposed Use or Development, Form 16 on our website. This will enable the Council to give you a formal determination as to whether planning permission is necessary.
