Dover Port Health Authority

Infectious Disease

Port Health is primarily concerned with the prevention and control of infectious disease. Globalisation has resulted in greater travel opportunities, which in turn has increased the spread of infectious disease. Therefore it is of paramount importance that early signs of infectious disease are identified and acted on. Dover Port Health Authority works closely with the Health Protection Agency to combat infectious disease and offer detailed advice and guidance on its prevention, spread and re-infection.

Dover Port Health Authority operate an 'Out of Hours' duty officer system, 364 days of the year. This means that Port Health can be notified of infectious disease and respond accordingly.

The Master of vessels from foreign ports are required to notify Port Health as soon as they are aware of an infectious disease and or death on board a vessel in advance of landing. A team of highly trained medics are on hand to respond with Port Health to any reported cases of infectious disease.
