Dover Port Health Authority

Import of Organic Products

Dover Port Health Authorities letter to Agents on Revised Charging

February 2007

Dear Agent

Organic Imports From Third Countries
The Organic Products (Imports from Third Countries) Regulations 2003
EU Regulation 1788/2001

ORGANIC CERTIFICATES

Dover Port Health Authority seeks to recover all reasonable costs associated with the enforcement of the above Regulations. As of the 8th of March 2007, t here will be a charge of £45 for the verification of ALL Certificates of Inspection, regardless of their endorsed status . In affect this means that non-complaint organic imports, presented to Dover Port Health Authority for verification, are from 08/03/2007 subject to a charge of £45 (as made at other UK Ports). Where a consignment is subject to movement control because its organic status cannot be verified, additional costs will become payable for any inspection or supervision carried out by Dover Port Health Authority.

The new charge is as a direct result of the significant increase of non-confirming organic imports presented at the port and the substantial administrative burden, associated with appropriately controlling such goods.

Should you have any queries regarding organic imports, please contact ourselves on the number above, or DEFRA’s Organic Farming Branch on 0207 238 5777.

Yours faithfully
