Dover Port Health Authority

Sampling

Sampling is an essential part of Port Health work - it enables us to check that food is safe and wholesome and of the quality and composition demanded. We are required by some Emergency Controls to take samples; we are also required by the Food Standards Agency to carry out a certain level of sampling.

Dover Port Health Authority take formal samples of all foodstuffs covered by an Emergency Control and informal samples of all other foodstuffs. We seek advice from the Public Analyst and Microbiologist to ensure that the samples we take are representative of the load and are taken aseptically.
