Top Tips to Reduce Your Waste
We need to reduce the amount of waste that we produce for the benefit of the environment.
Here are some tips to help you reduce your waste.
- Start home composting and turn garden and kitchen waste into organic peat free compost. Reduced priced compost bins are currently available to residents in the Dover District. See our compost page
- Cut grass often enough to enable cuttings to be left on your lawn.
- Think before you buy – do you need it, can you hire or borrow it?
- Visit your local farmers market to buy fresh produce or even grow your own.
- Where possible try and buy loose items, minimally wrapped, or wrapped in paper or cardboard that can be easily recycled.
- Think before you buy BOGOF items, will you use it, can you store it, freeze it or share it?
- Try your local milkman, the dairy reuse the glass bottles by cleaning, sterilising and refilling them, this reduces the need for single use milk containers.
- Cut down on disposable nappies by consider using cloth nappies.
- Use both sides of a piece of paper before putting it out to be recycled.
- By sending emails and e cards you can reduce your paper waste considerably.
- Use the Mailing Preference Service.
- Why not make the most of your local library. They have thousands of books, films and CDs available for your use.
- Make a shopping list when you go shopping so that you only buy what you need.
