The arrival of the high-speed rail link in 2009 has heralded an ever-greater degree of interest in the area. A range of major developments is already in process and include:
We are also taking centre stage on a world class sporting arena, with a big open welcome extended to the 2011 Open Golf Tournament which is to return to Royal St George’s in Sandwich. This follows the Archery World Cup, which came to Dover in 2007, and comes as Kent prepares for the arrival of the London Olympics Games in 2012.
These are all major developments, set to bring unparalleled opportunity to the district, which herald exciting times ahead. Yet there is also much more to come as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to strengthen links between the town of Dover and its renowned port and heritage is unveiled.
Dover District Council has been working with the port and key partners, including English Partnerships, The South East England Development Agency and Kent County Council, to develop a stunning new waterfront for Dover. Plans include connecting landmark tourist and heritage sites with the port by building a state-of–the-art land bridge and an internationally recognised iconic tower, including a visitors’ centre, restaurant, and Port Control. These structures will symbolise world-class renewal and complement the existing internationally recognised icons of Dover Castle and the white cliffs.
This continues the important work of Dover Pride, a multi-agency partnership, which includes Dover District Council, working to secure the long-term prosperity of the town.
A summary DVD has been produced showing how the work in progress on the concepts for regeneration will be linked together to provide the town with a transformational world-class future.
The DVD has been converted into Quick Time movie format - view the movie here.
