Access Highlight Markings

These markings are often called 'dogbones' due to their appearance from above. They are used to highlight the existence of a driveway or private access onto the public highway. The marking is often provided where the presence of a driveway is not obvious and so becomes obstructed by parked vehicles.

  • Access highlight markings are not enforceable but are a useful and effective way of highlighting an acccessway.
  • Each application for an access highlight marking costs £30. This fee is non-refundable.
  • Each application is for the one-time marking of an access highlight marking.
  • We will approve access highlight markings for properly constructed vehicular crossovers and where clearly defined parking problems exist.
  • Lines will terminate in line with the highest point of the dropped kerb.
  • We are only able to provide these markings on the highway directly by the accessway, and not on the opposite side of the road.
  • In the absence of any agreed instruction to the contrary, the access highlight marking (if approved) will be placed across the access(es) to your property when the lining contractor is next in your area. This may take several weeks but will avoid payment of the minimum contractor charge for a specific visit of £250.00.

To apply for an access highlight marking please download the application form and return to the address quoted along with a cheque for £30.
