We are lucky to have
the most beautiful stretch of coastline in England, Wales and
Northern Ireland as voted by the nation. Dover’s iconic White
Cliffs were a clear winner with 22% of the votes cast.
From the sandy expanse of Sandwich Bay to the crunch of pebbles
in Deal, St Margaret’s Bay and Dover, there are miles of stunning
and diverse coastline, all waiting to be discovered.
There’s plenty to keep the outdoor enthusiast happy. Anglers
come for our first class boat, beach and pier fishing. We have exhilarating water sports
and our world famous Championship golf courses’ are just some of
the activities to wet the thrill seekers appetite.

Coast Protection
Responsibility for the coastline is divided between various
authorities, including Dover District Council, who are
empowered under the Coast Protection Act 1949 to carry out works in
their area to protect the coast from erosion. The construction and
maintenance of works to resist coastal flooding is carried out by
the Environment Agency in accordance with the Water Resources Act
1991.
