Coast

We are lucky to have the most beautiful stretch of coastline in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as voted by the nation. Dover’s iconic White Cliffs were a clear winner with 22% of the votes cast.

From the sandy expanse of Sandwich Bay to the crunch of pebbles in Deal, St Margaret’s Bay and Dover, there are miles of stunning and diverse coastline, all waiting to be discovered.

There’s plenty to keep the outdoor enthusiast happy. Anglers come for our first class boat, beach and pier fishing. We have exhilarating water sports and our world famous Championship golf courses’ are just some of the activities to wet the thrill seekers appetite.

Responsibility for the coastline is divided between various authorities, including Dover District Council, who are empowered under the Coast Protection Act 1949 to carry out works in their area to protect the coast from erosion. The construction and maintenance of works to resist coastal flooding is carried out by the Environment Agency in accordance with the Water Resources Act 1991.
