If you feel the needs of the family sit below Support Levels 3 or 4, and you would have previously considered completing an Early Help Notification, please feel free to contact your local Early Help Team for a District Conversation. You will then be able to discuss the needs of a child, young person or family and be provided with advice about the most appropriate type of support available within the community at Support Levels 1 and 2.

Kooth, from XenZone, is an online counselling and emotional well-being platform for children and young people 10 -16 years, accessible virtually free at the point of use. Kooth staff can also provide resources and training for free to anyone in Kent that works with young people.

The Single Request for Support Form replaces the Early Help Notification (EHN) and the Inter-agency Referral (IAR) forms. The new form is intended to be used by professionals making requests for children and families requiring intensive or specialist support at levels 3 and 4 only. Any referrals that do not meet the criteria should be referred to the appropriate service for additional or universal services or consideration given as to whether the identified needs can be met within the referrer’s own service.

 Over the last few months KCC’s Public Health team (in partnership with the CCG) have been procuring two new bereavement support services. Each one has a different target market:

·       Children, young people, and young adults who have been bereaved in any manner (Due to start in September)

·       People (any age) bereaved by suicide. Started operating 1July, referrals being accepted now on the Amparo website.

 The teams are led by school nurses who are qualified nurses, with specialist training in public health. They are supported by school staff nurses, assistant practitioners, public health assistants and an administration team.

Accessing support to explore, manage and understand difficult feelings can be helpful. We offer up to six counselling sessions to help a young person gain understanding and develop strategies to help them feel better. For primary school-aged children, we can offer the child six sessions with a counsellor, or if more appropriate, we can offer parents six weekly online sessions with advice on practical, easy to use strategies to support your child.
