This year Dover District Council Launched the ‘Dover District – Dementia Friendly Community’. A working partnership of local Dementia Action Alliance groups, Dover District Council & Kent County Council staff, Councillors, Health & Care providers, Local businesses and residents. The Dover District DFC meets every quarter to bring the community together, to find out what’s happening locally across the district; learn from the wealth of knowledge and diverse experience on offer, as well as work together to help raise awareness of Dementia across the district.

If you would like to attend the Dover District DFC meetings, please contact community@dover.gov.uk.

Later Life Project

In 2017 we piloted our 'Later Life' project. First, we created our Later Life Address Book - a directory style book that featured information, grants, services and projects to help local residents feel safe, healthy and active in later life. We invited staff from local organisations to attend a free 45 minute Dementia friendly information session and in return, offered them free advertisement within the book. We trained 30 dementia friendly members of staff, creating 15 new dementia friendly businesses within the district.

Then we delivered our Later Life Celebration event. An event not only to launch the address book, but to celebrate age as well. The event featured vintage food, entertainment and live music with over 650 local residents joining the fun.

In 2018 we received funding from the Community Safety Partnership to create a second addition Later Life Address Book. In June 1,200 books were printed and delivered across the Dover district, to Care Navigators, Clinical Communing Groups, Housing associations, Libraries, Dementia Groups and given away at public events.
