Potential Impact on the Dover District
The Council has been working to highlight the potential impact of Brexit to services that we deliver and the wider Dover district. Withdrawal from the EU involves a complex set of negotiations and there are still many uncertainties. The Government hopes to deliver a smooth and orderly Brexit, however the country has to prepare for a number of outcomes.
There is a considerable amount of information and analysis available on the Parliament website, including a series of the Government’s own position papers published as an aide to the negotiations. However, there is still a lot that we do not know, for example:
The nature of the deal to leave the EU,
Our future trading relationship both with the EU and the rest of the world, and
The criteria for the Shared Prosperity Fund, intended in part to re-purpose the UK’s former EU contributions.
From what we understand, Brexit is likely to have a significant impact on local government, creating opportunities to do things differently, but also challenges that will need addressing.
