Radon Affected Areas

Radon is an international issue. Long-term exposure can be detrimental to health.

Public Health England recommends that radon levels should be reduced in homes where the average is more than 200 becquerels per metre cubed (200 Bq m-3). This Action Level refers to the annual average concentration in a home. This recommendation has been endorsed by the Government.

An atlas was published in November 2007 giving an overview of radon Affected Areas by 1km squares of the national grid. The atlas is indicative rather than definitive. (each 1km square is coloured according the highest radon potential within it).

The Government recommends that householders and workplaces in affected areas test their properties for radon levels.
