Mears' Social Value Programme

Making a positive difference to the communities in which we work

In 2016 Mears carried out a huge variety of community projects over and above day to day repair work including: tenant DIY training; work experience placements, “trade taster days”; recruiting nine apprentices; Macmillan coffee mornings; sponsoring the DDC garden competition and the Tenant Star Awards; providing 35 hampers for those having Christmas lunch at Age UK; clearing a community garden in Aylesham; adapting a disused garage from which to feed the homeless - and a whole lot more.

In 2017, as well as continuing many of the 2016 activities, Mears is focusing on working with local schools; running workshops that fit with the curriculum but also give advice and guidance about opportunities in repairs and maintenance and apprenticeship vacancies in 2018.

And watch this space – Mears will be
running brand new workshops later this year for tenants who would like to try their hand at upcycling furniture.
