New Service Launching to Help People With Employment and Recovery in Challenging Times

A new service is to be launched by the Dover, Deal and District Citizens Advice Bureau thanks to a funding boost from Dover District Council - to provide a range of help for people who have become unemployed in these challenging times.

As part of our ongoing work to support our communities, Dover District Council has provided Dover, Deal and District Citizens Advice Bureau with an additional grant of £60,000. The additional funding is to help the CAB to provide an ‘Employment and Recovery’ service for two years.  The service is set to launch in April, providing help with financial, legal and benefit issues, and helping people back into employment.

The funding from DDC is in addition to the annual grant of £97,000, as well as accommodation support, that DDC already provides to help the great work of the CAB.

Dover, Deal and District Citizens Advice Bureau is an independent local charity which provides free information and advice to everyone who needs it regardless of race, sex, colour, disability, sexuality or nationality. The service is free, independent, confidential and impartial. The Citizens Advice service is the UK's largest advice provider, with nearly half the population using the service at some point in their lives.

Cllr Nigel Collor, Dover District Council Cabinet Member for Transport, Licensing and Communities, said: “We continue to work closely with the Citizens Advice Bureau and are delighted to be able to provide this additional support for them.  We continue to value the great work they do in our communities, helping people when they need it most.”

Jan Stewart, Chief Officer at Citizens Advice said: “Citizens Advice continues to play a vital role in the wellbeing of the residents of this district and are delighted that DDC are continuing to help us to support people through the next few challenging years following the pandemic and beyond. This new project will ensure that our expertise is directed where it can help the most and enable people to recover as we move forward.”
